Talisman allows you to be a mighty hero, traveling the land, defeating monsters, and acquiring great treasures. But why be a mortal adventurer when you could be a god?

Divine Characters

Divinities are supernatural forces that shape the land of Talisman instead of travelling across it. Players with experiance the game very differently than standard (Mortal) Characters.
Players they play Divinities do not have a piece on the board. They don't have Strength, Craft, Gold, Lives, Objects, or Followers like Mortal Characters.
Divine Characters do have an attribute called Power - it increases over time and decreases when a Divine Character plays a card.
Divine Characters have two entirely different Alignments: Guardian and Destroyer which are completely different from Good and Evil and affect how they win or lose the game.

Guardian or Destroyer?

Starting the Game for Divine Characters

  1. All players decide if they are going to play a Mortal character or Divinity. There must be at least one Mortal character in the game.
  2. All Divinity players take a die and roll it - this is their starting Power.
  3. Each Divinity Character must decide if he is a Guardian or Destroyer.

Guardians

Guardians are protectors. At the start of the game each Guardian Character player selects a Mortal Character and decides to aid it in it's quest for the Crown of Command. The Mortal is called the Guardians Servant and the Guardian is called the Mortals Patron.
A Guardian wins if his Servant Character wins the game. A Guardian loses if his Servant is destroyed - both the Guardian and the Servant players are out of the game. A Guardian also loses if another Character wins the game.

Destroyers

Destroyers only goal is to destroy all the Mortal Characters and do not have Servants.
All Destroyers wins if all Mortals are destroyed. All Destroyers loses if any Mortal Character wins the game.

Turn Sequence for Divine Characters

Divinity players do not move a piece and their turn is simply composed of drawing cards, draw Power and, playing cards.

Draw Card - A Divinity player draws one card from the Adventure, Timescape, Dungeon, City deck. His card also choose to spend 3 Power to draw from the Spell deck instead. He doesn't have to show his cards to other players until it is used. Divinity players can have only one Spell in his hand and can have a total of six cards.

Draw Power - A Divinity player can increase his Power by 1 to a maximum of 6. If he chooses to draw Power he cannot play cards on the same turn.

Play Card - A Divinity player can spend Power to play a card from his hand. The amount of Power needed depends on the type of card.

  1. Objects cost 2 Power.
  2. Events, Strangers, and Spells cost 4 Power.
  3. Magic Objects, Followers and Places cost 6 Power.
  4. Enemies cost 1 Power per point of Strength/Craft rounded up.
  5. "All" and "Move" cards cost 6 Power.
Exceptions
1. A Divine Character player cannot give a Talisman card to a Mortal Character but can discard it to increase his Power to 6.
2. Certain Spells can be cast when it is not the casters turn (like Spell Turning), these may be cast by a Divine Character player whenever he wishes as long as he has the Power.
3. An "All" card is one that eliminates all of one type of thing a Mortal has but only effects him - like the Cursed by Hag removes all Followers or Fool's Gold removes all Gold. "Move" cards are those that move a Character to another space like Teleport or Magic Portal. "All" and "Move" overrides other card types.

Divine Character players can play a card on any Mortal Character which is then treated as if the Mortal Character just moved into the space and drew the card himself or cast it if it is a Spell. Note that cards can only but player in a space or on a Character a the board where that card could be normally drawn (only Timescape cards are playable on the Timescape board for example).
Divine Character players can also place any card that is not an Event or Spell in any space on the board.

Minor Rule Changes

1. The Warrior of Chaos cannot have a Patron, the Gods of Chaos are already aiding him as much as they are going to.
